Palangka Raya – The Central Kalimantan Regional Police (Kalteng) deployed 549 personnel to secure the 2024 Union Cycliste Internationale Mountain Bike (UCI-MTB) Eliminator World Cup mountain bike world championship which will be held in Palangka Raya City, on Sunday 19 May 2024.

Central Kalimantan Regional Police Chief Inspector General Drs. Djoko Poerwanto through the Head of Public Relations, Commissioner of Police Erlan Munaji, SIK, M.Si. revealed that currently his party is preparing 549 personnel to provide a sense of security and comfort during the UCI MTB world championship which is being participated in by 42 countries.

“Today, we are carrying out a personnel inspection roll call, taking place at Barigas Square, Central Kalimantan Police Headquarters. In accordance with the order issued and signed directly by the Regional Police Chief,” said the Head of Public Relations, Saturday (18/5/2024) afternoon.

Erlan said that the 549 members involved in securing the mountain bike world championships were a combination of Palangka Raya Regional Police and Police personnel as well as from related agencies, such as 100 TNI personnel, 35 Satpol PP personnel and 82 Transportation Service personnel.

“So they will later be deployed to a number of points near the activity location with the aim of ensuring that the event can run smoothly and safely without any obstacles,” he said.

He explained that apart from deploying security personnel, his party also prepared personnel to escort athletes and officials from the hotel to the championship venue, namely at the Jalan Tjilik Riwut Km 5 Palangka Raya Sports Complex.

“In essence, we are ready to provide security for this championship. Moreover, this is a world event and is of interest to the National Police Chief, Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who is also the chairman of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Cycling Sports Association (PB ISSI),” he said.

Erlan also revealed that the conduciveness of Palangka Raya City to date is safe and there are no prominent social security and order disturbances.

“The hope is that security and social security can be maintained, so that this year’s UCI MTB championship can run safely and smoothly,” said Erlan. (adji/sam)
